There is an overlap in how we see - the science of perception - and weaving. I've always thought this, but it is not until recently that I dug into the science behind it. This idea is described as the integration of bottom-up and top-down processing in the brain, which together creates a metaphorical weave.
I tested this idea in this drawing Untitled, 2025 used the warp and weft grid to explore these ideas. I used colored pencil, the image of the October landscape is pieced together by warp and weft intersecting lines. This structure, the weave, is the basic way we make material, even something so scientific as vision.
Interlace is a new series that explores this idea.
